Lumie, The Desert Hopper of Light
By Devorah Ungerleider
16-foot mixed media interactive sculpture that collects and amplifies people’s wishes for the world—transforming them into a shared, living experience.
Meet Lumie, The Desert Hopper of Light
A large-scale interactive sculpture by artist Devorah Ungerleider, exploring connection, reflection, and shared human experience.
Inspired by the desert hare—swift, intuitive, and deeply aware—Lumie stands as a quiet guardian, listening and amplifying what matters most in our time. A reminder of our common ground. At sixteen feet tall, the sculpture invites people to pause, look closer, and engage.
Lumie is not static. It evolves through participation.
Visitors are invited to share their wishes for the world—hopes for healing, clarity, connection, and change. These messages become part of the work itself, layered across Lumie like living marks of humanity. Each voice contributes to a growing collective story—shaped by many perspectives and a shared desire for something better.
The sculpture’s outer form is woven from original abstract paintings—cut, layered, and reassembled into a unified surface. From a distance, Lumie appears bold and iconic. Up close, it reveals texture, detail, and the quiet rhythm of repetition—inviting discovery, reflection, and a sense of ease.
At its core, Lumie is about connection.
A moment to pause.
A space to reflect.
A reminder that we are more alike than we often remember.
As Lumie travels, it carries these shared wishes forward—connecting people across places, cultures, and moments in time.
